Springtime in Nova Scotia

While home in Nova Scotia for a visit, I plan to experience many sights, different hiking trails, moments by the ocean (for meditation) and of course, will have my camera with me at all times.

Follow along on my Instagram (@aleyahs) and stay tuned for more images!

Shooting around Toronto with Miami's Le Haute Sauce

When Miami-based stylist, and my good friend, Yelany De Varona (Le Haute Sauce) came to Toronto last summer for the first time, we set up a mini shoot exploring some noteworthy areas in the city we wanted to show her. Pulling a few pieces from a favourite fashion, art and design shop, Nuvango, take a look at our street style shoot!

Nantes, France

June was a very busy travel month, starting with a trip to Nantes, France.

Nantes, an artistic city in Brittany, was actually on my list of places to visit since early Fall 2016! I travelled there via SNCF from Paris, where I met up with Konstantina Pyrnokoki, who flew in from Athens, at Oceania Hotel de France to plan out the next three days.  In that short time, we explored as much as we could and created a curated city guide for Here & There Magazine as well as a neighbourhood featured piece for NUVO Magazine.

I have added a few images, but make sure to check out both the guide and feature to 'see' the city!

FAJO Magazine: Selfie Inspired Shoot

I recently shot a series for FAJO Magazine based on the 'selfie' image. To me, the selfie is an image that is taken of oneself - the self portrait - but always at the angle and framing most pleasing to ones self. With the smartphone, anyone can take a picture of themselves and then post to Instagram or any other social media platform, making it public for all to see how you most like the way you appear in a picture, and at any moment. This seems to have replaced the polaroid, which I like to think of as the first instant, 'selfie' camera.

These images were shot with all this in mind, and then edited to recreate the effects of the polaroid and the analog medium, with light leaks and other small details you notice from older images.

Hair - Jessica Berswick (hairstylist at Kearns & Co., Toronto)
MakeUp - Jen Cronin
Stylist -  Amalia Bentivoglio
Models - Téa and Alexandria of ModelWorks Toronto
